I Haven't Worked Out in Years. Where Do I Start?
First, you are definitely not alone.
When life is moving fast, it's easy to let workouts fall to the side. Maybe you used to have a routine. Maybe you've never really been a "gym person" (me neither). Then you look up and somehow it's been two years—or five—since you've consistently exercised.
So where do you start?
Start with movement that feels doable, makes sense for your body and gives you a reason to come back. You don't need to jump into an intense workout five days a week. You don't need to get "in shape" before joining a class. And you definitely don't need to already know what you're doing.
Why a traditional gym doesn't work for everyone
I'll be the first to admit that I've never done well with "just a gym membership."
I lacked the knowledge—and honestly, the discipline—to walk into a big gym, figure out what I was supposed to do and understand why I was doing it.
That's one of the reasons I love instructor-led movement.
When you have someone guiding you, teaching you and helping you understand your body, working out starts to make more sense. You begin to notice progress. You feel stronger. Things that were hard get a little easier.
And that's when movement can become something you actually want to keep doing.
You don't have to choose between strength, flexibility and balance
At Gypsy Rising, we believe movement is medicine—and we also know your body doesn't need the exact same thing every day.
Some days you want to sweat and feel challenged. Other days, you need to slow down, stretch and move gently.
That's why our classes work together.
Pilates can help build core strength. Yoga can improve mobility and balance. Strength-based classes help us build and maintain muscle. Chair Yoga and Chair Strength can be an incredible starting point if you're not comfortable getting up and down from the floor yet.
And when you're ready to challenge yourself? We've got plenty of opportunities for that too.
You don't have to know which one you need before you walk through the door. That's what we're here for.
So...what should your first class be?
It depends on you.
Are you nervous about getting on and off the floor? Let's talk about Chair Yoga or Chair Strength.
Want to build strength but need something beginner-friendly? Mat Pilates may be a great place to start.
Feeling stiff and craving mobility? Let's find you a yoga class.
Want to sweat, work hard and see what you're capable of? We can do that too.
Our two-week introductory offer was created for exactly this reason. Try different classes, teachers and times. Come early in the morning. Come after work. Find what actually fits into your life.
Because the goal isn't to suddenly become someone who loves working out seven days a week.
The goal is to start moving again.
And then keep going.
